Housebuilding

The house-building sector has never been tougher or more competitive. Having worked as an ‘industry insider’ for many years Karen Wallis knows exactly how the sector works. This is how she gained her reputation as a solicitor who delivers.

The slow but steady return of confidence to the market is being led by those companies that have vision and an eye for the future. These are the house-builders that rightly demand a lawyer on their team who knows their industry inside out and has the necessary skills, confidence and ability to make things happen. Karen understands this. She also understands that in today’s climate more than ever, it is essential that as the key lawyer, she is involved on a project right from the very outset-offering a competitive fee structure that is not burdened by the overheads of the more traditional law firm.

‘I am totally at home with the culture of the house-building industry and what makes it tick’ says Karen. ‘I am successful because I am able to look at the bigger picture. Of course as a lawyer I am there to dispense legal advice and understand the legal framework, but I do a lot more than that. I am a facilitator who understands and collaborates with the expertise of others, such as planning and engineering consultants and land agents. Above all else, I understand that in order to successfully deliver, teamwork is essential.’

Karen has substantial experience of major projects, including joint ventures, land acquisition, large-scale urban extensions and re-generation projects as well as the negotiation of consortium agreements, including acting as consortium solicitor on various projects. This has often involved the most complex negotiations of agreements with the planning authorities. She prides herself as a development lawyer who understands the finances of house-building and how essential it is to get the valuation models right. In short, Karen has the ability to square the circle, delivering on the demands of both landowners and developers.

Karen has worked on many large scale mixed use projects involving residential, retail, employment, hotel, leisure, health and care facilities.
